To celebrate my first museum exhibition at the Bakersfield Art Museum, I painted “The Farmer”. Bakersfield was built on farming so I thought it would be appropriate to include an image about farming in the show. In this painting, the farmer cradles the land he loves and cares for, it’s his livelihood and survival. I was amazed at how many museum patrons talked to me about how the image was “exactly right” - that this is really what farming is about for them. A detail of the face showing the built up texture and another of the farmhouse are included below.
